Like a 4/10 at best.

I think all the fanboys are being WAY too generous with this game and thinking it is good. It is a rushed sequel that’s only upgrade is to the graphics. Other than the very good looking character models and levels this game is a step back. I think that people are saying it is good because they want it to be good really badly. I understand that it has all these Marvel characters but that doesn’t make a game good. I love playing as Iron Man and Cap and Spider-Man and the like but that doesn’t make this game good. It is extremely flawed and shipped with really annoying bugs and things like the auto-spend system refusing to turn off.

Lend this game to your friends so they can play it. Tell your friends to rent this game and not buy it (or buy used). The less copies sold the better because it will show them that people don’t want second rate sequels like this for their Marvel characters. I know that most of people who don’t like this game won’t even bother coming to this forum to speak up so I figured I would do it for them. Next time they will have to make a solid product before I even look at a new game.

As for me I am going to go back to playing MUA1, better powers, more costumes, and better story. I beat this game twice and it has no replay value now unless they add hours of FREE DLC levels, cause I wouldn’t pay for them since the original game should only have cost $30. I’ve already sold my copy on ebay for $50. I am glad I could cash out before people realize how bad this game is.

Better powers? How so? Most of the powers are useless.. And a Majority of the characters feel the same.. I couldn’t tell the difference between when I was thing or Invisible Woman.. And you will never die because the A.I. is dumb and the boss fights are retarded.. If you honestly think that 1 is better than 2, well that doesn’t make sense to me.. It has nothing to do with fanboys.. People know 2 is better because is looks better and they have balanced Powers and characters.. Yeah the fusions are the same, but their still cool as shit… I tried going back to 1 today and I just couldn’t enjoy it as much.. Just knowing the lack of enemies on screen as well as never gonna die just doesn’t fulfill my enjoyment.. But I guess some are gonna like it and some are gonna hate it..

I can see both of your arguments, but the real problem with this game for me came down to this:

Less Powers
Less Replay Value
Difficulty level was incredibly easy
Less costumes
Very Linear Level layout
Dumbed down the RPG aspect of the game even more
Boring,repetitive enemies
Added a stupid shove move and took away the unique throws
I preferred the equipment system
Loading screen is bland as compared to the original’s concept art.
TOO MANY BUGS THAT EFFECT THE GAME MAJORLY
Sim missions are horrible when compared to the original’s

Overall a 7 out of 10. They did a lot of things right but lacked in the areas I really was counting on.

I played PS2 Anti-Reg. Just beat the game, compared to the first, mildly disappointed. I’ll do my best to remain spoiler-free, I don’t know how to use Spoiler tags.  I’m also seeing clips of the other versions of the game and they look much more awesome than the seemingly watered-down version I got.

Firstly, the Debate and Switch. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DebateAndSwitch They go to all the trouble of introducing an interesting controversial issue of the Superhuman Registration Act, it’s like the selling point of the game. And then the whole affair disappears as soon as the next world-wide calamity strikes.

Completely ignored first game - We were given a teaser about the Black Widow and Galactus. G makes no reference in this game, and we see Black Widow casually taking target practice at the base, even chastising us Anti-Reg for our actions.

Shorter game, not as story-driven - Playing through one side nets you about 4 levels. I love story in a game, so I have my ol VCR record all my fav story bits when I play. In MUA1 I filled one and a half 8 hour tapes. MUA2? About 3 hours. There aren’t many characters involved in the cutscenes in main roles. MUA1 had a great evil plan using bad guys ranging all over the Marvel-verse, (and like the best evil plans, it really sounded like it could work).

In MUA1 you got to talk to characters in-base, about the current story, their life-history, I loved it. Not to mention the over-arching Black Widow Mystery Side-quests. There are no Side or Optional Quests here, no suspenseful mystery, and very few characters in base to talk to.

Lack of Emotional contact - In MUA1, you are literally forced to make a deal with the devil. I was pretty surprised when it happened, no matter what you do, you lose. With more writing, there was more characterization and I felt more immersed in the world. Not to mention one character is playable and very much fine, and no mention of the other character.

Less funny writing - MUA1 is where Deadpool introduced himself to me, and I fell in love. Besides that, Spidey, my first love, also had some great lines. One of my favorite features of MUA1 was the Voice-Acting and Additional Character dialogue in-level. That’s been virtually erased here. In one level when I go to face Iron Man, he specifically notes that Captain America is not with me. I double-checked to see if I would’ve gotten a scene otherwise. I found out it’s because Cap is unavailable to play at that time, thus forbidding me from getting a different response. Kudos for allowing Deadpool to break to fourth wall, but still, his dialogue seemed pretty.. rational for him. I did love his Idle though!!

Behooves you to pick one team and stick with it - It gives you all these great characters, but once I found a team I was comfortable with and starting upgrading its stats, I had no reason or incentive to try other characters out. Also, in MUA1, Unlockable characters like Blade and Ghost Rider were part of the story. Black Panther and Daredevil were acquired by finding their hidden action figures. Dr. Strange joined us when we rescue him. Here, we get six unlockables, all the same way, by earning enough points through Bonus Missions.

Not much of a challenge - For me, toughest battle was Boss of Level 2, and became easier once I figured out to use the Pop attack and how to avoid the explosions. Didnt require any strategy for anything else.

They made me do math!! - Yes. When I’m playing a video game about Comic book superheroes, I’ve been waiting for a minigame where I need to take out a pad and paper and scribble some algebraic equations. Wasn’t keen on the hacking minigame either. I loved the classic arcade minigames in MUA1.

Can’t give orders to your team, kept tripping over them.

PS2 version can not upgrade/change outfits. Also, doesn’t seem we get the “Team Boosts” when you have a specific four characters together, such as the Fantastic Four. No “Heroic Deeds”.

MUA1 really rewarded exploring. We get to return to good ol Stark Tower, but most of the fun characters there are gone, none of the hidden power-ups are there, and we don’t even get to use the hidden passageway. Weirdly, In Gambit’s bonus mission, there’s clearly a hidden area behind some broken boards. You go through, there is nothing there, just a waste of time.  Cutting down on the dialogue, the extra dialogue, the voice-acting, the upgradable costumes, really took away the replayability for me.

Game had more bugs than any game I’ve ever played.

The Good-
Thor was a lot more fun with his kicking lightning powers. Jean Grey and her Telekinesis was one of my favorite new additions. The Fusions were pretty cool, but since I kept the same team all game, I dunno if I got to make the most of them. Story was pretty good, I just wish there was more of it. Settings and Worlds were lovely.

Man.  I’ve been checking out some of the behind the scene videos and finally playthrough of the game on other systems and noticing that it is *dramatically* different and better experience than my PS2 version.  The writing is much better, more development, conversations, so much more extras, MORE DEADPOOL even more Spidey.  Why couldn’t I have this game?  I really feel like I been slighted here.

wow this game is by far the biggest disappointment of the year for me.  I just put it up on ebay.  I’ve beat the game and platinumed it very easily.  It definitely felt rushed with glitches galore.

My biggest complaint is the amount of downgrades: less costumes, less powers, less levels, less customization, less levels etc…

Also the game was far to easy my brother (who rarely plays video games and is a complete noob) came over and played it with me on the legendary and we were using lower tier characters and yet the game was still a breeze he wanted to stop because there was no challenge at all.

Now I’m stuck waiting for marvel ultimate alliance 3 while playing the first one, I’m hoping the next installment isn’t as big as a disappointment as this one was.

I’ve enjoyed the game. I’ve played through numerous times. The different feel of the characters is a big plus. I like anti much better than pro. Pro makes me feel guilty. With that being said, I do have, what to me is a major disappointment. I don’t like having to unlock the characters every play through. I have beat the game on legendary but didn’t enjoy it. I like to start the game with 4 characters and play them all the way through. I enjoy seeing how they progress. For whatever reason VV decided that I could only play the game the way they wanted me to. This has really cut down on my enjoyment. I understand why they wanted to control the 1st play through. It is their game. However, I feel that after that, it’s my game. I paid $60 and should be able to play like I want to. I thought MUA1 was perfect in this regard. I hope if they get to do another game they will keep this in mind. Not everybody enjoys playing a game the same way. The more ways that are available to play, the more satisfied customers you would have.

yeah.  Eventhough they made it seem like pro and anti would have two separate stories, they were still the same levels!  JUst instead of ShIELD you fought White Star and different bosses.

MUA1 had varied levels and bosses.  Way better roster.  Way more replay.  Way longer story.  Way cooler sim missions. More powers, More costumes, more customization (In the first game if you played online with 2 different people that used a level 30 CaptainAmerica… they could have completely different stats/powers. not the case inMUA2)

I give MUA 2 a 6/10
